Sarah E. Toney, a criminal and DUI defense attorney and owner of The Toney Law Firm, LLC in Chicago, has been elected Treasurer of the Illinois State Bar Association. Throughout her ISBA involvement, Sarah focuses her efforts on the advancement of young lawyers within ISBA as well as the support of fellow law firm owners and lawyers looking to grow their network.
A native of the Chicago suburbs, Sarah obtained her Bachelors of Science from Miami University. She obtained her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law, where she went on to be an Adjunct Professor for 13 years while still practicing criminal defense. Sarah has been admitted to practice law since 2004, and is on staff of the Trial Lawyers College.
As a member of the Board of Governors since 2019, she is currently serving her 2nd term and serves as Board liaison to the Traffic Laws & Courts Council and the Law Office Management Committee. Sarah also serves on the Assembly and as an ISBA speaker. She was awarded the ISBA Young Lawyer of the Year award in 2014. She has also served as a member of the Solo and Small Firm Practice Institute Planning Committee, LAWPAC, and the Legislation Committee.
Sarah also serves on the Board of the Illinois Bar Foundation as well as the Board of the ISBA Mutual Insurance Company. She has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Illinois Top 50 Women Lawyers, and Top 100 Lawyers since 2020. She received the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois Top Women Lawyers in Leadership Award in 2021.
Sarah currently resides in Chicago, Illinois with her husband Patrick and golden retriever Nola.
